Set the mood
Before starting your facial, slip into a cozy robe and slippers and create a spa-like environment to help you relax and feel pampered. In a few quick steps, you can give your abode a tranquil makeover.
- Flick off or dim overhead lights, and illuminate your space with burning candles. They help you unwind, as their glow is softer and less stimulating than regular lighting.
- Put on soothing music. Instrumental types without lyrics are preferable, because words can encourage you to sing along, so you're focused on the song instead of relaxing your mind and body.
- Diffuse essential oil. Simply put a few drops into an aromatherapy diffuser to fill the air with gentle scent. For relaxation, use lavender oil; for invigoration, choose a citrus oil, such as grapefruit or lemon.
- Establish a lounge area. Pick a chair, couch or chaise you can sink into before and after your treatment and while your mask dries. Have plenty of throw pillows and a footrest at hand to ensure your comfort.
Do-it-yourself facial
Once to three times a week, give yourself this hydrating, soothing and clarifying facial to keep your skin looking its best.
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansing gets rid of residual of makeup, dirt and oil that can clog pores. If your skin is dry and dehydrated, use Marcelle New Age Comforting Foaming Cleanser, which is formulated with moisturizing ingredients, such as shea butter and olive oil. For oily skin, use an oil-free product, such as Marcelle Gentle Foaming Wash or Marcelle Hydra-C Gentle Self-Foaming Cleanser. To get the most of your cleanser, moisten your face and apply it in upward, circular motions, avoiding the eye contour area. Thoroughly rinse.

The skin on the face is delicate, so avoid exfoliators with rough ingredients, such as apricot seed or walnut shell. Instead, choose a product, such as Marcelle Hydra-C Facial Exfoliating Gel, with round beads made of materials like jojoba esters that have a more delicate touch. Massage Hydra-C Facial Exfoliating Gel over your face in upward, circular motions, paying extra attention to areas with lots of clogged pores. Be sure to exfoliate your lips, too, as they have dead skin cells on the surface that need to be removed. To treat your lips, put a drop of Hydra-C Facial Exfoliating Gel on your fingertip, then gently massage your lips and lip-line from left to right. Use warm water to rinse off the product. |
Step 3: Apply tonifying lotion
Using tonifying lotion now preps your skin for step 4; the lotion ensures your skin will absorb the helpful ingredients in the mask. Try Marcelle New Age Soothing Hydrating Tonifying Lotion, which is perfect for any skin type. Simply pour the lotion into the palm of your hand and smooth it over your face and neck, avoiding the eye contour area.

Apply a thick layer of the cream to your face and let it penetrate for 12 to 15 minutes. Do not rinse your face, simply wipe off excess product with a tissue. For oily or acne prone skin, Marcelle Clay Mask is ideal, as it's made with ingredients that absorb impurities and prevent breakouts, such as witch hazel and kaolin. Apply a generous layer to your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for 10 minutes, or until it's dry, then remove with a face cloth and warm water. Finish off with an application of Marcelle New Age Soothing Hydrating Tonifying Lotion. |
Step 5: Use lip balm
Finally, coat your lips with Marcelle Lip Balm. Made with moisturizing aloe, shea butter and vitamins, it helps preserve the smooth results of exfoliation and helps prevent chapping cause by winter's cold, dry air.
