LET US INTRODUCE YOU TO YOUR SKIN

Are you trying to find out what products work best for your skin?

Aging is a chronological process that begins slowly from your mid-twenties and intensifies with years. Skin changes can be caused by time (intrinsic factors) but also by external factors, like your lifestyle, your skin care routine, etc. After the age of 40, skin experiences what is called “chronological” aging, a term used to describe skin changes which are primarily caused by time. It is a universal process, essentially characterized by a decrease in the cellular activity in the skin. This deterioration causes a loss of firmness in the skin and the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Aging is a general phenomenon: it affects all skin’s layers, from the epidermis to the dermis.

1.    The epidermis becomes thinner and its natural barrier is altered.
2.    The dermo-epidermal junction flattens and becomes more “fragile” / vulnerable / sensitive than before. The vital exchanges between the epidermis and the dermis are affected.
3.    The activity in the dermis decreases considerably. As they age, the fibroblasts of the dermis become less productive (less collagen and elastin fibers are synthesized in the dermis) and their multiplication decreases too.

A new breakthrough has been revealed after 10 years of research from Vichy Laboratories: the dermis is no longer considered as a single and uniform layer. It has two different layers, the papillary dermis and the reticular dermis, that differ in their role and their importance. The most active, precious and fragile one is the papillary dermis:

  • "active” because it multiplies more and produces more collagen and elastin fibers then the other one,
  • "precious” because when activated, new cells, new fibers and new vital exchanges are created in the entire skin (epidermis, dermo-epidermal junction and dermis)
  • But most of all “fragile”, because after the age of 40, it’s the 1st layer that begins to age and to disappear. The entire skin loses its youthful appearance.

As your skin’s needs change with time and lifestyle, having a specific routine well adapted to each one of them will be your best ally to slowing down signs of aging. That is why it is important to ask your beauty advisor for a skin diagnosis and have a well adapted routine that will specifically target and treat your needs. Always read the labels and search for actives ingredients such as “Retinol” (for wrinkles), “Pro-Xylane and Proteic Gf” (for redefining facial contours), “Rhamnose at 5%” (for wrinkles and firmness), Vitamin C in continuous release, etc.
