November 28, 2017
EDMONTON (November 28, 2017) – The Rexall Foundation has donated $10,000 to Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS), to empower youth facing difficult realities, offering shelter and security.
The donation was made possible by Rexall’s store-wide Customer Appreciation events held in August, in which Rexall locations across Canada host various fundraisers at the store-level in support of the Rexall Foundation. The top fundraising region won the grand prize of donating $10,000 to a donation of choice and numerous stores in the Edmonton area collectively selected the donation be sent to YESS.
“We are extremely proud of all our employees and customers who continuously work to give back to their community,” said Daryl Houston, Regional Director, Rexall. “The funding provided will enable YESS to continue to be there for youth with resources, guidance and love for young people experiencing harsh realities.”
The donation will go directly towards YESS programs and resources that help youth achieve their goals. In 2016, YESS empowered 602 youth, served 64,000 meals, provided 6725 volunteer hours, and had an 87% shelter occupancy.
“The Rexall Foundation positively impacts the lives of thousands of children and seniors and we are proud to support YESS by providing funding for ending youth homelessness and supporting youth in need,” said Paul Matteis, Rexall Foundation Board Member.
“The generous donation from the Rexall Foundation will directly support our Nexus Program,” said Eileen Papulkas, Senior Development Officer, YESS. “The Nexus program provides emergency shelter and focuses on rapidly rehousing homeless youth. In 2016, 321 youth accessed our Nexus program, indicating the critical need for this kind of program. In addition to necessities, Nexus also provides supportive services through one-on-one youth support workers to help youth achieve short term goals and move towards stability. We are grateful to have received funds to help continue a highly needed program.”
The Rexall Foundation has been helping build strong and vibrant communities by supporting numerous charitable organizations since 2002. Whether it’s a community or children’s hospital or a disease prevention organization, the Foundation values the role it plays in helping the delivery of numerous programs and services in Canada. In 2017, the Rexall Foundation has already donated over $600,000 to 47 charitable organizations that promote the health and wellness of children and seniors, including charities in Alberta, including Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre, Camp Quality, Centre for Autism Services Alberta, Cerebral Palsy Association Alberta, Silvera for Seniors, The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, Our Parents’ Home, plus many more local and national charities across Canada.
