Get Brighter Eyes

Since your eyes are the windows to your soul, you want them to be a reflection of the bright and energetic person you are. So if puffiness, dark circles and fine lines are stealing the shine from your eyes, making them look worn out, it’s time to restore their beauty.

Transforming your eyes from tired to alert requires minimal effort on your part. According to Elysa Panzica, Rexall Beauty Expert, the right skincare products and makeup tips can revive them in no time. Here’s how to remedy common concerns so your eyes sparkle-just like you do-once again.

Problem: Puffiness

Cosmetic quick-fix: All it takes is a bit of concealer to mask puffiness. Pick one that matches your complexion or that’s slightly darker. “Going half a shade to one shade darker helps recede and push back the appearance of puffiness,” she says.  Apply foundation to your face, then use your ring finger to roll concealer into the skin. There are many great products to choose from, such as The Balm Cosmetics’ TimeBalm collection. Gently blend it in, then set with powder.

Problem: Under-eye discolouration

Skincare solution: To remedy minor discolouration, use a double-duty product that covers up and treats bags. Garnier 2-in-1 Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller is a great option. For dark and deep under-eye circles, use something formulated with vitamin C. “This ingredient revives the skin and lessens the darkness,” says Panzica. Try NeoStrata Anti Dark Circle Complex.

Cosmetic quick-fix: Concealer comes to the rescue again! To hide dark circles, choose one with a pink-ish undertone. Try a Vasanti Wonders of the World Concealer. “I know it sounds kind of funny, but pink neutralizes the purple-blues under your eyes,” she says. “A lot of concealers have undertones of yellows and oranges. But when you put those onto discoloured skin, it can make you look kind of green or more purple.” Using your ring finger, roll concealer onto any darkened spots on or around your eyes, then blend it in and set with powder. (Remember, foundation goes on prior to concealer.)

Problem: Less skin firmness and fine lines

Cosmetic quick-fix: Proper makeup application can give your eyes an instant lift. “The best thing to do is keep your under-eye area very clean,” she says. “Don’t add any liner to the bottom lash line-you want to keep the focus up top.” Using a damp eyeliner brush, apply smoky grey or dark brown shadow along your upper lash line. When you reach the outer corners, make the line a tad thicker and sweep it slightly upward (to create a cat-eye effect). Next, add a touch of shimmery shadow (go for taupe or golden champagne hues) to the creases of your eyelids. “A little shimmer helps make the eyes look more radiant and give them a bit of a sparkle,” she says.
