IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE FROM REXALL

The last few weeks have been challenging for Canadians. Like you, we continue to cope with the rapidly changing environment created by the emergence and spread of COVID-19. We have taken a number of steps to mitigate health and safety risks, implemented plans that ensure business continuity, and rolled out training programs that support our valued employees’ health and safety allowing them to continue serving you, our customers, in delivering essential frontline healthcare.

On March 27th, we became aware that an employee working at the Rexall in First Canadian Place (downtown Toronto) had tested positive for COVID-19 and we are sending our best wishes to our employee for a full and speedy recovery.

The employee’s last shift was on Tuesday, March 17th, they are in self isolation and will continue to do so until the appropriate medical clearance is received.

As part of our COVID-19 response plan, Rexall has initiated the following steps:

  • We have contacted Toronto Public Health and are working in cooperation with them on next steps.
  • We have contacted all employees who worked with the individual and offered appropriate support.
  • Beyond the enhanced cleaning measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have deep cleaned the Rexall front store, pharmacy and employee spaces.

As directed by Toronto Public Health, the store can resume regular operations on Monday, March 30th.

Sharing this type of news is difficult but necessary. For customers who may have shopped with us at this location, we felt it was important to provide you with this information.

REXALL TAKES STEPS TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES ACROSS CANADA DURING COVID-19

At Rexall, the health and safety of our employees, customers and patients remains a priority. As we work through COVID-19, Rexall will continue to focus on important actions such as:

  • Staff education on proper infection control processes
  • Frequent hand washing with soap/water or alcohol-based gel as outlined by Public Health Agency of Canada to prevent the spread of COVID-19
  • Routine and thorough cleaning protocols at our stores, disinfecting all high-touch areas, including the employee lunchroom, manager’s office, consultation rooms, Pharmacy pick-up and drop-off, cash registers and pin-pad terminals.
  • Ensuring hand sanitizer is available for customers, patients and employees at multiple stations across each store
  • Ensuring employees and pharmacists have the information they need to stay healthy or to stay at home if they are feeling unwell
  • Cascading material related to COVID-19 to our store teams on a regular basis so that they can keep informed of the latest public health and operational information

We have also encouraged social distancing at all Rexall stores and have provided signage regarding these measures at the front of our stores and floor decals throughout our stores. Furthermore, Rexall has installed plexiglass barriers between our employees and customers at point of purchase and pharmacy pick-up and drop offs.

In addition, all Rexall store employees, and visitors for business purposes, are required to wear face masks or face coverings while performing work at our stores.

Rexall will continue to examine all safety protocols and incorporate any new measures put forth by Public Health Agency of Canada to ensure the safety and health of our employees.

PARTNERING WITH TIA HEALTH TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO VIRTUAL CARE FOR EMPLOYEES, CUSTOMERS AND PATIENTS

Rexall has partnered with Tia Health to launch a virtual care service for patients to help relieve the current burden on the acute healthcare system, specifically emergency rooms and hospitals. Patients will be able to talk to a doctor from the comfort of their homes by video chat or phone call and receive safe and effective medical care. Tia Health will be available at rexall.ca beginning on March 20th.

Virtual care is covered by the provincial health plan in Ontario (OHIP) and British Columbia (MSP), but not the other provinces. Patients with a valid Ontario or British Columbia health card will not be charged. Patients in other provinces will receive a receipt that may be reimbursed through a health spending account or other private insurance.

Rexall is making this service available free of charge for its employees.

PROVIDING HOME DELIVERY FOR CHRONIC AND MAINTENANCE MEDICATIONS THROUGH REXALL DIRECT
