Urinary Tract Infections: How Can My Rexall Pharmacist Help?

The facts about urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infection (UTI) or “cystitis” occurs when bacteria infect any part of the urinary system. Urinary tract infection symptoms may include a burning feeling when you urinate and a frequent urge to urinate. Some people with UTI may have cloudy, dark, or strange-smelling urine or blood in the urine, but others may not have these symptoms. Women who have these symptoms and who don’t have a fever, pain between the stomach and back, or vaginal discharge are likely to have an “uncomplicated” UTI.

If you have symptoms of a UTI, see your Rexall Pharmacist

If you have symptoms of an uncomplicated UTI, see your Rexall Pharmacist as soon as possible.  Your Rexall Pharmacist can assess your condition to ensure you do not have any signs and symptoms that would suggest you have a complicated UTI. If you have a complicated UTI, you should see a doctor or other qualified health professional. In addition to suggesting treatment for your symptoms, your Rexall Pharmacist will recommend ways to prevent UTIs in the future and answer any questions you might have about using natural remedies, such as cranberry juice.

What can my Rexall Pharmacist prescribe to cure my UTI?

Your Rexall Pharmacist can assess your situation and discuss the benefits and risks of available treatment options based on your personal circumstances. If deemed appropriate, your Rexall Pharmacist may prescribe an antibiotic medication to kill the bacteria that are causing the UTI. The most common medications used for treatment of UTIs are antibiotics such as nitrofurantoin or  a sulfa drug combined with trimethoprim. If you have any questions about your condition or your treatment, or feel that your medication may be causing side effects, don’t hesitate to ask your Rexall Pharmacist at any time.
