Rexall Partners As Title Sponsor for OneWalk to Conquer Cancer Benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto

Wed, Feb 10, 2016

OneWalk to Conquer Cancer announces Rexall as title sponsor for the second annual charity walk, benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and Jürgen Schreiber, CEO of Rexall Health, share a passion for healthy living and say the strategic partnership will draw thousands of new walkers from across the GTA to participate in OneWalk to Conquer Cancer and raise funds to conquer the cancer that matters most to them.

“Rexall is a forward-thinking retailer working to create healthy lifestyle choices for all Canadians,” said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

“Two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime, and The Princess Margaret is grateful to partner with Rexall as the event’s title sponsor in Ontario. Their vast network of stores will enable more participants to raise funds and walk to support Personalized Cancer Medicine at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, where world-leading clinicians and researchers are working to detect cancers earlier, diagnose with more precision, target treatment for each patient and support patients and their families throughout the cancer journey,” added Alofs.

Rexall’s support as title sponsor is vital in the overall success of OneWalk and will enable The Princess Margaret to invest more funds raised through OneWalk into their core cancer programs.

“Rexall Drugstore is very excited and proud to be the title sponsor of the 2016 OneWalk to Conquer Cancer,” said Schreiber.

“Our pharmacists and pharmacy staff treat, counsel, and manage the health of thousands of patients every day, including cancer patients. It seemed only appropriate that we are able to team-up with one of the most recognizable names in cancer research around the world, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and with this tremendously successful event. We’ve all been touched by cancer in one way or another, so I would encourage everyone to lace up their shoes and support that loved-one or friend. Register to walk by February 21st using promo code ‘RegOnRexall’ to cover your registration,” added Schreiber.

The Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer takes place on September 10, 2016 and is a one-day, 25-kilomentre walk through the streets of Toronto, with a start and finish line festival at Toronto’s iconic Nathan Phillips Square.

“I am a 15-year breast cancer survivor and 16-year thyroid cancer survivor who has been participating in walks and fundraising efforts to support the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre since 2003,” said Gina Pace, a second-time OneWalk participant from Thornhill, Ont.

“I walk because eight days before my wedding, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and one year later, at the age of 32, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result of the side effects of treatment, it took my husband and I many years to have a child. In 2007, we had our ‘miracle baby.’ He is now eight-years-old and is the light of our lives! I am so grateful for the incredible care I received at The Princess Margaret; they saved my life. OneWalk to Conquer Cancer is an important part of my life and my family’s life, and we encourage others to come join us this September,” Gina added.

OneWalk is one-day for all cancers. When a participant registers for OneWalk, they choose to conquer the cancer that matters most to them.

“We invite everyone to join us to walk in September! Register today by visiting www.onewalk.ca or call (416) 815-9255, and thanks to Rexall, your registration fee is covered,” Alofs added.
