Typhoid, also referred to as typhoid fever or enteric fever, is an infection caused by the bacteria Salmonella Typhi. It is most commonly found in developing countries, and symptoms can include a high and sustained fever, constipation, cough, headache, sore throat, and loss of appetite, among others.
Typhoid vaccines offer 50% to 70% protection against the infection, and
boosters are available for high-risk individuals. Depending on the type of vaccine (oral or injectable), you may need to get this vaccine
one to two weeks before travel.
